LOTR Marathon

Fellowship of the Rings

Sauron, the Lord of the Rings, has awakened and threatens to conquer Middle-earth. To stop this ancient evil once and for all, Frodo Baggins must destroy Sauron's One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom. Men, hobbits, a wizard, an elf and a dwarf form a fellowship to help him on his quest.
He travels from his home in the Shire with Sam, Merry and Pippin to Bree where they meet Aragorn. Pursued by Black Riders, they must get to Rivendell where they decide to take the ring to Mordor, and where they are joined by Gandalf, Gimli, Legolas and Boromir. They try to cross the mountains but are defeated because of Saruman's magic and travel underneath, through the mines of Moria, where Gandalf falls into a chasm while fighting a Balrog. They then travel to the country of the elves in Lothlórien, and down the Great River on boats, where the company splits during an attack by Uruk-hai. Boromir is killed, and Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas split off to track the Uruk-hai who have captured Merry and Pippin. Frodo and Sam head east in the direction of Mordor.

The Two Towers

The surviving members of the Fellowship of the Ring have split into three groups. Frodo and Sam face many perils on their continuing quest to save Middle-earth by destroying the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom. Merry and Pippin escape from the Orcs and must convince the Ents to join the battle against evil. Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas encounter a mysteriously transformed Gandalf and the people of Rohan, at war with Saruman's army before the climactic battle at Helm's Deep.

The Return of the King

While Frodo and Sam continue their journey to Mount Doom in order to destroy the One Ring, their companion, Gollum, secretly plans to take it for himself. Meanwhile, Sauron's dark forces mount an unprecedented attack, culminating in the massive Battle of the Pelennor Fields on the outskirts of Minas Tirith. The other surviving members of the Fellowship join forces with Rohan And Gondor to defeat them. However, Aragorn realises that their numbers are few by comparison with the might of Sauron, and he, Legolas and Gimli undertake a perilous expedition to enlist the aid of the King of the Dead and his spectral army.
